Join the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence Sydney House and Barry Charles (known as Trough Man) for this year’s annual History Walk, taking you on a fascinating tour of Newtown,
one of Sydney’s most iconic 'Gay Hubs'. Barry and the Sisters will provide a unique perspective on how Newtown has evolved over the years,
sharing both the highlights and challenges of this vibrant neighbourhood.
The last time the Sisters hosted this walk in Newtown was in 2019, with 55 participants joining the event. Join Barry and the Sisters as they stroll down King Street,
highlighting the rich history of Newtown. With Barry’s colourful past and contributions from the gathered faithful, this walk promises to be an uplifting and informative experience.
If we’re lucky, the Sisters might even perform another exorcism at the Anglican Moore Theological College near Sydney University!
Wear sensible shoes, sun screen, a hat, bring water and of course be prepared for the weather.

Start the day with a relaxing ferry ride across the spectacular Sydney Harbour on an iconic ferry to visit one of the world's great zoos with the
Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.
Keep a look out for the Sisters who will also be gathering at the wharf.
Alternatively you can make your own way there and meet us inside the main gate, Bradleys Head Road Mosman by 9:45 for a 10:00am start.
Parking is available at Taronga Zoo car park.
Once Inside we will be greeted by Zoo Guides and Keepers and subject to the availability of suitable animals there is likely to be some Australian fauna that can be gently petted
(under supervision, of course), or observed in the arms of their keepers.
Zoo guides, and volunteers together with the Sisters, will take you on a tour like no other, visiting all the wonders Taronga Zoo has to offer with native Australian animals front and centre.
The Sisters will recite poems and share some 19th Century recipes of Australian fauna.
The formal tour will conclude with the Australian Bird Show at midday. At the conclusion the Sisters thank the volunteers and collect donations for the zoo. You’re welcome to stick around with the Sisters for lunch!
It is always recommended by the Sisters that you continue your own perambulation of the zoo as there is so much to explore.
Wear sensible shoes, bring water, sunscreen, be prepared for the weather and of course bring a sense of humour!
