Sing-Along Sound Of Music

The Ritz Cinema, Randwick

Friday 23rd February 2024

The Sisters were delighted to partner with the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Choir and Queer Screen to co-present a sing-a-long screening of The Sound Of Music, as part of the Mardi Gras Film Festival Program. The Sound of Music holds a special place in the history of the Sisters. As the legend goes, the original San Francisco Sisters got their habits from a real Catholic nun, under the pretence that they were to be used as costumes in a stage production of the Sound of Music!

Around 200 members of the Gathered Faithful came to join the Sisters in song, many of them dressed in fabulous costumes - nuns, lederhosen, and girls in white dresses.

The Sisters distributed "party bags" to the audience containing poppers (not that kind!) and various other props allowing them to interact with specific moments of the screening. The Sisters gave a short speech before the film discussing our history and the relevance of the film, before raffling off a prize: a plush toy Holy Dingo.
