Living History Walk 2026 - Darlinghurst & Kings Cross

Step back in time with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, in partnership with Barry Charles our resident historian, as we wander the streets of Darlinghurst and Kings Cross to re-visit significant areas and land marks that make up its colourful past. Comparisons made of Oxford St from the past to its current day. See where the original Mardi Gras street parade descended into chaos, and jailings.

Visit the red light district of Kings Cross and its former Bohemian Cafe Society of the 1930’s and 40’s. Reflect fondly with us, the roaring night life that includes the famous Les Girls, the Jewel Box, The Rex Hotel, The Bottoms Up Bar and The Barrell Inn and salacious stories of where punters may have sought the company of “Salted Meat” (sailors on shore leave!)

Wear sensible shoes, sun screen, a hat, bring water and of course be prepared for the weather.

When:   Sunday 22nd February 2026
Meet:    Green Park
Corner Burton Street and Darlinghurst Road
              Darlinghurst
Time:     9:45am for a 10am start.

Zoo Walk 2026 - Taronga Zoo

Start the day with a relaxing ferry ride across the spectacular Sydney Harbour on an iconic ferry to visit one of the world's great zoos with the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

Keep a look out for the Sisters who will also be gathering at the wharf.

Alternatively you can make your own way there and meet us inside the main gate, Bradleys Head Road Mosman by 9:45 for a 10:00am start.
Parking is available at Taronga Zoo car park.

Once Inside we will be greeted by Zoo Guides and Keepers and subject to the availability of suitable animals there is likely to be some Australian fauna that can be gently petted (under supervision, of course), or observed in the arms of their keepers.
Zoo guides, and volunteers together with the Sisters, will take you on a tour like no other, visiting all the wonders Taronga Zoo has to offer with native Australian animals front and centre. The Sisters will recite poems and share some 19th Century recipes of Australian fauna.

The formal tour will conclude with the Australian Bird Show at midday. At the conclusion the Sisters thank the volunteers and collect donations for the zoo. You're welcome to stick around with the Sisters for lunch! It is always recommended by the Sisters that you continue your own perambulation of the zoo as there is so much to explore.

Wear sensible shoes, bring water, sunscreen, be prepared for the weather and of course bring a sense of humour!

When:    Thursday 26th February 2026
Meeting Point:    Adjacent to Wharf 4, Circular Quay
Wharf Assembly Time:   9:00 am to catch the 9:20 Ferry.
                                          (Ferries don't wait!)

Cost: This will be ferry fare, Zoo entrance, and food - if you wish to eat!
A combined ferry/zoo pass could possibly be the way to go.
Enquire about these on the day, at the Ferry Terminal.

The Sisters On Parade

Keep a lookout for the Sisters as you enjoy the passing parade hosted by Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras [Parade].
This is Ecstatica — the 48th anniversary of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade, lighting up Oxford Street, Flinders Street, and Anzac Parade.

"It starts as a heartbeat — one that’s echoed through this city since 1978.
Then the bass drops: the roar of the crowd, the thunder of the Dykes on Bikes, the shimmer of sequins under streetlights. From that first rev to the final float, you can feel it rising — an energy that’s wild, defiant, and beautifully alive."

When:    Saturday 28th February 2026
               6:00pm to 11:00pm
Where:   Oxford Street, Flinders Street, ANZAC Parade
